Because DDT is still widely used in much of the developing world, its effects remain extant even though the United States and other nations have prohibited the manufacturing of the chemical.

On December 31, 1972, the Environmental Protection Agency instated a ban on the substance. With DDT illegal in the United States, its use remains restricted to a number of developing nations and also to many modern nations like South Africa (Grener nd). DDT is still manufactured and used in agriculture worldwide even though the chemical is banned in the United States. In fact, DDT is manufactured in many countries including Mexico and is imported by a host of large and largely populated nations like India, the Philippines, and Venezuela (DDT).
