21st century, one only need drive down a road to see the number of fast-food restaurants, or walk into most any grocery store to be besieged by advertisements, contrary opinions, and diet products. Everyone in the medical community agrees that there is a correlation between what we eat and drink and the overall state and consequence to our health. Americans, and most of the rest of the developed world, are literally rabid in consumption of diet aids, vitamins and supplements, and the quest for a healthy diet. So, are there negatives to healthy eating? Certainly none that are medical -- but, in our society of fast food, it is more expensive to eat right, fresh vegetables, hormone free meat, low sugar beverages all are a bit more expensive that the high-carbohydrate, fast foods so popular. What are the consequences of an unhealthy diet and lack of exercise? They are numerous -- there is an epidemic of obesity in America which has numerous health risks: heart disease, cirrhosis of the liver, arthritis, diabetes (most especially those overweight. Coupled with this are the costs of unhealthy diet -- medical, illness, employee absence, etc.

Eating right involves two things: a balanced approach to nutrition and the proper mindset to utilize the proper foods in the proper amount. The balanced approach to nutrition does not require depriving oneself of everything one likes -- it simply indicates that we eat in moderation, and, when possible, try to include more fresh fruits and vegetables, limit processed foods and sugars, eat whole foods, limit alcohol, and most especially limit sugary drinks and candies with only processed empty calories and very little nutritional value.

For example, on a given day Americans drink 12 gallons of soft drinks per week, totaling vast amounts of sugar -- is this healthful?

Next, human beings need to balance fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. Most of the quick fix diets that promise rapid weight loss emphasize one portion, which might cause limited loss, but is neither healthy nor helps with long-term issues. Humans also need minerals, vitamins, and substances at minute levels to remain healthy. Typically, this can be accomplished by eating an Exercise, of course, is a necessary component of any healthful lifestyle. Even limited amounts of aerobic exercise can have dramatic benefits. Exercise elevates the levels of brain chemicals that enhance mood, actually help limit the body's craving for sugars, and contribute to an overall sense of health. This translates into stronger bones and muscles better sleep patterns, better memory, and less chance for diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and, according to some, prevention of some types of cancer. So, what has to happen -- well, sound nutrition consisting of limited portions of healthy food….....
