Based on greater spending in research and development (R&D) and more investments in capital equipment, Verizon has able to be the first to launch 4G services in the United States, and it also allowed for subscribers from third-party providers and carriers who compete primarily with their brand (Dekleva, Shim, Varshney, Knoerzer, 2007).
