Importance

The lack of advance work done in the 1963 assassination of president John F. Kennedy is an empirical example of how the lack of advance work is destructive. Advance work failed at the highest levels and as a result the greatest failure in protective services was witnessed on that day. Advance work becomes an obvious focal point for protective service agents everywhere who are dedicated to serving the mission to their best extent.

The importance of advance work is also seen in the ability to take a total and whole strategy and apply it to minor aspects of its execution. Advance work is teamwork in action and the ability to coordinate this type of operation certainly demonstrates the overall capabilities of the protective unit. In other words, advance work is a skill that all protective agents must have a high level of proficiency.


The rapid and ever-changing scenarios that protective agents are often exposed to, requires that these agents are able to conduct advance operations on the fly. This skill must be done when time and circumstances are not optimal.
