The final section of an APA manuscript is the References page. This section should also begin on a new page. It is a section that is just as critical as the title page and main body. The purpose of the references page is to give the reader more information on the sources that were used in the paper. The references page coordinates with the parenthetical references that were given in the main body of the paper so the reader may at any time turn to the final page of the paper to see exactly what book, periodical, scholarly journal, website, or other source was used for that particular piece of information (Purdue University Online Writing Lab, 2010).

Information for references should be given in a particular order so as to avoid confusion for the reader. First should be the name of the author or authors, followed by the date, then the title of the book or article.

If it is an article, the title should be followed by the title of the magazine, journal, or newspaper from which it was taken, then the volume of the periodical, the pages that were used, the place it was published, then the name of the publisher. If there is other information, such as a website, it would come last. This is the order of the information, but if there is information missing, that place in the order should be skipped and the next available piece of information should be given.
