Program Reflection Survey

What was your experience of the modular format of the courses? Did the courses in each module seem to fit together well? Why or why not?

I have enjoyed this particular modular format. It had all of the academic quality that I expected from the Masters Course. For starters, it maintained high and extensive standards for academic excellence and classes that are quite intensive. In addition, the modular format had flexible scheduling. The classes were well scheduled to allow time for practical assessments and time to soak in the academic content. The internet communication and contact between the classes enabled us as students to interact with each other together with the professors through the internet. In addition, these online discussions largely strengthened the conversation and debates held in the classroom. The courses in each module seemed to fit with each other in the right way, the reason being, they took into consideration the different subject matters, linked and placed the relations amongst the courses to weave in more understanding for the student.

2. What has been your experience of the capstone courses in particular, and your progress with the capstone project?

I have had a spectacular experience with regard to the capstone courses and the capstone project. In particular, the capstone courses have afforded me the chance to show that I have in fact attained the goals for learning the curriculum that was set out for this particular course. These two, the capstone courses and project, in overall have been largely beneficial as they have evaluated my cognitive, sentimental and psychological learning capabilities and in a manner that has all along been directed to me as a student. It has encouraged me to use, analyze, and synthesize the knowledge and skills that I have thus far learnt and attained from the course. This is largely because it has incorporated learning from the different courses in the major together with the courses that are encompassed in the entire academic experience. The capstone project has pushed me to apply all of this learning and knowledge, and which offers me the opportunity to be assessed and evaluated on the extent of my capabilities and understanding. Most importantly, as a student, we are inclined to excel more in some areas compared to others. The capstone courses and particularly the project has enabled me to demonstrate the strengths of my learning.

There are a number of courses that I found to be particularly useful with regards to being applicable in my professional life. The professional ethics course learnt will be beneficial to me not only in professional endeavor but also in a personal manner. The subjects covered the range from amenability to environmental stewardship to social justice and codes of behavior. Ethics is significant to the business workplace as well as the entire society. This also relates to being significant individually, through personal ethics. Personal variables such as one's moral code will intersect with the contextual variables such as the organization's specific norms and code of ethics, each contributing to how individuals make ethical decisions within the organizational context. Another element is organizational analysis and assessment as it is the analysis of what individuals undertake in an organization and how their behavior has an influence on the performance of the organization. By having an understanding of the manner in which we interrelate and work together with others in the organization, improvements can be incorporated towards adding value to the company. I have also benefited in the Leading Complex Organizations course. It enabled me to assess my styles of leadership and their potential impact. For instance, the course enables me to learn that styles of leadership that are more flexible, such as servant leadership, where the organizational leaders concentrate on making the organization better, are actually the ones most probable to attain success in aspects such as innovation, even in larger, complex organizations. In general, I have been impressed by the manner in which the course was able to synthesize organizational theory, leadership theory development as well as management theory and practices and delineate the impact of these aspects on the business aspect of things to bring about an effect and successive performance on the business realm.

Organizational behavior encompasses studying the analysis and scrutiny of the impact that persons, teams, and structure have on behavior within organizations with the main determination of making use of such awareness on behavior to make organizations function in a more effective manner. In the contemporary, the program of organizational behavior consists of a research paper, capstone project, or final examination, with the purpose of synthesizing all of the information included in the syllabi. 5. In general, what suggestions do you have for improving future cohort experiences in the program?

One of the suggestions I have for improving the experiences of cohorts in the future about the program is incorporating leadership training in technology. In a world that is constantly and rapidly changing as a result of technology, the ability to do business on a 24/7 basis, from practically anywhere in the world has come to be an imperative element. With technology evolving incessantly, a demand is also existent for those leaders who have the capacity and competency to stay on top of the cutting-edge breakthroughs, while at the same time managing colleagues who can access work materials and work together from any location. Therefore, this element ought to be taken into consideration and included for better experiences of cohorts in the future.

Part 2: Program Portfolio

Individual Integrative Essay

The portfolio achieved the outcomes of the course as it outlines the aspects of leadership and management. Management and leadership are related, complementary, functions, but they are not the same. Management is needed to organize resources, whereas leadership is required to guide the human element of the organization. Organizational systems are largely a management issue, but certain aspects of leadership are influenced by systems as well. Systems are the means by which resources are organized. The role of management is to develop and nurture those systems. However, leadership is involved in a couple of significant, different, though intertwined ways. Leadership is first involved in setting the organization's mission and vision. These provide the basic framework for what the organization hopes to achieve, and that framework forms the basis for the systems that management uses. The vision and mission will also provide a means for setting the performance mandates and benchmarks for the organizational system.

The course in particular relates to me in both a personal and professional manner. Leadership is an element that applies in all ways. Leadership is inherently a human endeavor, the result of an interaction between two or more people. Therefore, it enables me to understand the styles of leadership that are suitable at the work place and in a personal manner. As pointed out, in the contemporary, to be effective across the different tasks and challenges, a leader needs to be able to adjust his or her leadership style, preferably in line with situational and contextual requirements. In the present day, we live in a world that is constantly changing, and therefore it is imperative to understand the different approaches of leadership, which will help me not only as an individual, but also in an organizational context, professionally. In the present times, plenty of things continue to change. For instance, with the advancement in technology and progression in globalization as well as diversity within workplace settings, leading in complex organizations is a course that will have constructive impact in my personal and professional path. This will enable me to prepare in leading the organization as a partnership leader.

This portfolio has an immense prospective impact for my career in the future. For one, the course instilled in me the capacity to analyze my personal leadership style and formed the basis of my particular style. The analysis of authentic leadership and servant leadership will enable me to work towards this "change" in my leadership approach. For instance, the course enables me to learn that styles of leadership that are more flexible, such as servant leadership, where the organizational leaders concentrate on making the organization better, are actually the ones most likely to succeed in aspects such as innovation, as well as operating in complex organizations. Another style learnt is authentic leadership. This style of leadership mirrors a leader who is true to their own self. It is a style that….....
