I then acknowledged that I had already been notified of the status of my application and that the negative outcome was largely my own doing. I didn't elaborate on the offensive behavior I displayed because I thought it would lead to the letter becoming more personal than business like. Finally, I closed the letter by wishing the recipient the best. Overall, I wanted the letter to sound uncontrived and sincere.

As I mentioned, it was my father who helped me compose the letter, so he proofread it as well. Being a neophyte in the business letter-writing arena then, I had concerns about grammar and sentence construction. I had full confidence in my father's ability to proofread because he was a former English professor.

Question 2.

This is what I would be thinking if I were the recipient of that letter:

Hmmm..
. it's impressive this one bothered at all to thank me for the interview; not many of them practice this basic courtesy these days. (Reads on). She's apologizing for an 'unfitting behavior;' what does she mean? She should have elaborated. (Pauses to think). Ah, I remember this one - this is the arrogant one. Poor girl. At least she knows. Well, better luck next time." would appreciate the gesture but leave it at that; I wouldn't feel obliged to write back for there's nothing more to be said. Besides, I had already informed the applicant of her interview's outcome. I would mention this to the recruiter the next chance I get, though. I'd also remind them to pre-screen their applicants carefully, especially on the personality criteria, before they forward any application….....
