In fact, Don should have handled the situation honorably from the beginning, to gain respects from Charlie and others, and show his caring and concern for his workforce. Instead of promising his superior that he would do what it takes to ensure the project is done, he should have noted that the project could not be completed if the budget is cut, and that he would complete as much of it as possible. He also should have noted Charlie's opportunity, and attempted to gain the funds to ensure he could stay with the company. His decision to lie to his supervisor and his employee with unethical, and undermines his decision-making capabilities and trustworthiness as a manager and employee.

The only way Don can rectify the situation is to do the right thing and tell the truth to everyone involved. As another writer says, "It pays to be good" (Norris, 2006), and Don is definitely not being good. His decisions are self-serving, and his attitude is to cover himself and the heck with anyone else. Thus, his motives, his citizenship, and his responsibility to his employees all come into question.

Don chose poorly, and it will certainly come back to haunt him in the end. His remaining employees will know what he did and find it difficult to trust him, and his managers will know that he will promise anything, and perhaps not deliver on that promise. He is suspect, and his motives are suspect, which makes him a time bomb for the organization and the people he manages.

In conclusion, Don's behavior may save him his job, but it will lose him the respect of his co-workers, especially Charlie. Don is only concerned with saving his own skin, and eventually his superiors will discover that type of behavior. He made a poor choice, and continuing to lie about it will simply exacerbate the situation and make it worse when it finally comes out......
