Cambium PTP (Wireless Setup)

The purpose of this project is to install Cambium PTP (Point-to-Point) 800 series. The project will also build 6 tents as well as installing 2 generators to enhance smooth operation of the Cambium PTP. Cambium PTP is an excellent microwave solutions and wireless devices for service providers as well network operators. The Cambium PTP is also an innovative technology that delivers a reliable, secure and cost effective connectivity.

Specification

The project chooses the Cambium PTP 800 series for the installation process. The PTP 800 is the wireless broadband solutions with RF (radio frequency). The Cambium PTP 800 series are designed with Ethernet bridging on the point-to-point microwaves links with licensed bands between 6 GHz and 38 GHz.

Key features

The key features of the PTP (Point-to-Point) 800 Series are as follows:

Link capacity between 10 Mbps and 368 Mbps in each direction.

Configurable channel bandwidths between 7 MHz and 80 MHz (ETSI and FCC).

Fixed modulation modes between QPSK and 256 QAM.

Hot Standby 1+1 link protection.

Receive Spatial Diversity.

Effective QoS (quality of service) with Layer 2 or Layer 3 eight queues and classifications.

Ultra-low latency of 64 byte frames with

If the ODU is to be mounted outdoors, there is a need to protect the connectors with weatherproof,

There is also need to protect the antenna with weatherproof unless the manufacturer states otherwise.

As being revealed in Fig 2, it is also necessary to ground the cable at the correct point to the supporting structure. The antenna cable should be grounded at the correct point within 1 foot (0.3 meters) of the ODU and antennas using the Cambium grounding kit of the part number 01010419001.

Using the site approved methods; there is a need to dress the antenna cables to the supporting structure.

Installation of the top LPU and ODU

The LPU (Lightning Protection Unit) and ODU (integrated or connectorized) involves the following procedures:

Safety precaution

It is critical not to mount ODU on poles with diameter greater than 3" (75mm) or diameter less than 2" (50mm).

Integrated lifting eye should be in proper functioning and should not be damaged to exposed user to a shock,

Rear bracket strap should not be reversed

It is critical not to remove the pre-fitted mounting bracket.

To connect ODU, it is critical to select a mounting position to give it maximum protection. To minimize cable loss, there is a need to select a good position to minimize the antenna cable length and the ODU should not be mounted at the midpoint in-between antenna.

Preparation to Mount the top LPU and ODU

Equipment and Tools to mount the top LPU and ODU are as follows:

ODU

Mounting pole.

LPU End Kit PTP600 (Cambium part number WB2907D).

Lifting equipment.

Spanners.

Procedure to Mount the top LPU and ODU

Attaching the ODU strap to the pole using M8 coil washers, M8 flat washers, M8 x 70 mm or M8 x 40 mm bolts.

The LPU must be vertical with the cable and entry holes facing downwards.

Tightening to ascertain the assembly grips.

Using the integral safety loop in order to hoist the ODU to the bracket. (Cambium Networks, 2013

Connecting and grounding top LPU and the ODU

Preparation -- Tools and Equipment:

Top LPU and ODU mounted on the pole.

Back-to-back cable connected with glands and RJ45 connectors at both ends of the LPU End Kit,

PTP600 with the Cambium part number WB2907D

Grounding cables being connected to ODU.

Anti-oxidant compound.

Weatherproofing used for grounding points.

Spanner.

Procedure

Connecting the PIDU port of the ODU to the end of the back-to-back cable.

Connecting the top of LPU to the small plug of the ODU ground cable.

Connecting the large lug of the ODU ground cable to the supporting structure of the grounding point fixed within 1ft (0.3 meters) of the ODU bracket.

Weatherproofing the N type Connector

Weatherproofing is very essential to protect connector from the weather damage. Exposure of the connector to harsh weather could diminish the communication power of the Cambium PTP. Weatherproofing is very critical to enhance the seamless communication of Cambium PTP. Procedure of weatherproofing is discussed below:

Equipment and Tools for Weatherproofing

Use RF cables and N type connectors with the external antenna installed with connectorized ODU.

Torque wrench.

PVC tape and Self-amalgamating.

N type connectors to be tightened using a set of 1.7 Nm or 15 lb in and torque wrench.

Procedure for Weatherproofing

Using a 0.75-inch (19 mm) PVC tape to wrap the connection. Avoid making wrinkles; make the wrapping to cover the LPU.

For the smooth tape edges:

Cut 5 inches (125mm) length of rubber tape and expand the tape's width to wrap the cable and connector completely.

Pressing the tapes edge completely together to ensure that there is a gap and the tape should extend 1 inch (25mm) beyond the PVC tape.

Wrapping a layer of 2 inch (50 mm) PVC tape from top to bottom and starting from 1 inch (25 mm) below the edge of the tape, and overlapping it at half width.

Repeat the process with four layers of 0.75-inch (19mm) PVC tape, and overlapping at half width.

Moreover, Wrap the layers within the alternate directions:

Top to bottom: second layer.

Bottom to top: third layer.

Top to bottom: fourth layer.

Bottom to top: fifth layer.

The bottom edge of each layer needs to be in 1 inch (25 mm) below the previous layer.
