According to a national survey conducted in 2021, 39% of women in Kenya have experienced physical violence, and 14% have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime. Additionally, 40% of women aged 15-49 have experienced emotional, physical, or sexual violence by an intimate partner (World Health Organization, 2021).The health consequences of violence against women in Kenya are significant and include physical injuries, mental health disorders, and reproductive health problems. Women who experience violence are more likely to suffer from depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They may also be at increased risk of contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs), unintended pregnancies, and have lower rates of contraceptive use (Kameri-Mbote, 2001).Who is affected:Violence against women in Kenya affects women and girls of all ages, socioeconomic status, and ethnic backgrounds.
