Change Management and the IT World

In today's world of competition, the fact is that a good IT organization cannot guarantee success, but an organization that is not managed well can surely lead to failure. This paper based on extensive research focuses on explaining how to organize the Information Technology staff to enhance the probability for successful completion of assigned projects and tasks.

The challenge that haunts many organizations regarding their IT management is how can IT be aligned with the business. The task at hand for many top-level executives is how can the IT infrastructure be managed from a business perspective so as to enhance the business value of the organization through proper implementation of Information Technology.

The project-based organization focuses on how to design an enterprise project office, by thoroughly understanding the importance and value of an IT enabled organization that is strong enough to transcend all geographical borders, consequently resulting in the formation of a global IT organization.

For many organizations, managing IT has never been more difficult than it is today. Knowledgeable guidance is required to assist today's managers in doing a complicated task better is in shorter span of time.

The Task of Managing Change

The basic definition of "change management" implies that it refers to the task of managing change, which has two meanings in the world of business.

The first meaning of managing change is to make effective changes in a planned and well-managed systematic way. This approach enables implementation of new methods and systems in an ongoing organization to be done very effectively. The changes that are to be managed are internally controlled effectively by the organization. However, these internal changes can be triggered by events instigated externally by the organization. This is called "the environment."

Therefore, the second meaning of managing change, is the response to changes over which the organization exercises little or no control (e.g., legislation, social and political upheaval, the actions of competitors, shifting economic tides and currents, and so on).
