This is the nature of the universe and the Book of Changes stresses the importance of understanding that there will be change so that one can be flexible and roll with the punches, essentially. Once one has the understanding that change is always going to occur, one can then cultivate the right attitude for dealing with the change. Another thing discussed in the Book of Changes is the notion that there is a persistent rule in the universe that will never change (though everything else is changing). The Book of Changes, therefore, was about inevitable change and a persistent rule.

Understanding yin and yang is fundamental for understanding feng shui as discussed in the Book of Changes. Though yin and yang are natural opposites, they still need each other in the natural world. That is to say that one can't exist with the other existing. Once yin and yang is understood in the natural world, feng shui promotes that people can change their environment and their prospects by using this newfound knowledge. Everything in one's environment needs to be in balance in order to create harmony, which is thus reflected in prosperity, good health and well-being. This goes back to Guo's Book of Burial as well. Finding the perfect site in which to bury the dead was about balancing certain human elements with the natural world.
During this time it was not uncommon for a person not yet dead to take part in picking the perfect location for his gravesite. This truly is incorporating the human world with the natural world.

Feng shui really came into its most prominent period during the Tang dynasty and it lasted until the end of the Song dynasty (A.D. 960-1179). There were two major geomantic schools that were formulated during this period -- the Situation school and the Direction school (Lin 2000, p. 5). According to Lin, it isn't surprising that feng shui really had its heyday during this period as it was a period marked by a very strong academic atmosphere and some of the most stunning achievements in art and literature were created during this period. The Situation school and the Direction school were really a split of theory and practice, though both of the schools are within the framework of Taoism (2000, p. 5). The Situation school focused more on the environmental elements that were around a site while the Direction school focuses more on a site's alignment with the stars….....
