Cleopatra and the Fall of Egypt

Cleopatra life started around 69 B.C. through to 30 B.C. And her reign started around 51 B.C. till the time of her death which was around 30 B.C. She was almost certainly the most unforgettable queen ever seen in the land of Egypt. She was felt as far as the Roman Empire as she affected the Empire by bringing down the Roman Empire leaders on accident. This developed a very strong hatred towards her from the Roman Empire Senate. It was clear that Cleopatra ended up with a good number of enemies than friends not on purpose.

According to Chauveau, Michel, (2000), Cleopatra's story started by the time she was around 17 years old. There was a fight between Cleopatra and Ptolemy XIII who happened to be her brother as well as her husband. The fight was simply revolving around the Egyptian throne. This made Ptolemy XIII to hunt Cleopatra down until she was left with no choice but to seek foreign assistance. Being a cunning woman, Cleopatra came up with an idea; the idea was to hide in a carpet that was supposed to be issued to Julius Caesar as a gift when he visited Alexandria from Rome.

When Julius Caesar received the gift (special carpet), he was surprised by Cleopatra's presence in the carpet as he never anticipated her rolled in it. This whole idea was meant to persuade Julius Caesar to assist her in killing Ptolemy XIII. Julius Caesar just saw an opportunity and despite the fact that Cleopatra was never that beauty, Caesar fell for her.

This relationship saw Julius Caesar accepting to kill Ptolemy XIII. He did send army later in 47 B.C. To kill Ptolemy XIII in which they succeeded. After the death of Ptolemy XIII Julius Caesar and Cleopatra stayed together and out of their relationship, a son named Caesarion was born. Julius Caesar was also killed later by the conspiracy from the Senate of Rome, that was around 44 B.C.

The death of Julius Caesar saw the emergence of Mark Antony and Octavian who were not fully supported by the people. This made Cleopatra hesitant in getting involved with either of the two. The moment Cleopatra became sure that Mark Antony was the probable successor of Julius Caesar, she then threw her weight behind Antony. (Walker, Susan; Higgs, Peter, 2002) The support later turned out to be a love affair between Cleopatra and Mark Antony. For the fact that majority of Romans had no love for Cleopatra, they extended the hatred to Antony and this gave Octavian an easy way of waging war against Antony and Cleopatra.….....
