In order for a counselor to get the necessary information that will provide guidance for counselor and client an initial intake or assessment will gather all the essential personal information needed such as race, age, sex, marital status, and situation/problems. Through an initial assessment a counselor has to be able to understand the client's background and use that information to guide a client down the right career path. The client interview will focus on obtaining information about Alaina's work history, career aspirations, work role, medical history, education and family history, problems in living, behaviors, and faulty cognitions which lead to employment difficulties. In addition, the counselor will consider Alaina's overall appearance, behavior, and mood at the time of the interview.
