Classroom Management Plan1In my classroom management plan, I intend to integrate several behavioral management theories. First, I would use Skinner’s behavior modification approach, as I believe that positive reinforcement can be a powerful tool in directing student behavior. I also like Lee Canter/Marlene Canter’s “assertive discipline” approach as I believe that as an educator, I have professional rights within the classroom and should expect appropriate student behavior. Boundaries and expectations need to be set. At the same time, I feel strongly about Carl Rogers and H. Jerome Freiberg's “personal-centered classroom” because I want my students to experience a sense of belonging. I want them to actually enjoy the power of self-discipline, and to have fun while learning. That is because I ultimately see education as an experience of freedom and as a learning journey—so it should be enjoyed even if at times it is hard work. But to support that journey I would also implement Paul Gathercoal’s “judicious discipline” approach. It is based on a synthesis of professional ethics. In my class, I will base my rules on the principles of the Constitution, putting emphasis on individual freedom but encouraging students to take ownership of their learning.
