HCC Life Insurance vs. Coventry

Purpose of the INSURANCE COMPANY: The purpose of HCC Life Insurance Company is to provide Short-Term Health Insurance for a period of six months. Applicants must reapply for a policy every six months. The purpose of Coventry Health Care of South Florida is to provide Health Insurance that fulfills the Patient and Affordable Care Act (Coventry, 2015). It provides insurance for a period of 12 months, after which the insured must reapply for a new policy.

Benefits offered: Urgent Care, Hospital Room and Board, Local Ambulance, Intensive Care, Physical Therapy, Mental and Nervous Disorders, Home Health Care, Extended Care. Primary Care, Specialist Care, Other Practitioner Care, Preventive Care, Screening, Immunizations, Diagnostic Tests, Imaging, Drugs, Facility Fees (Outpatients and Hospitals), Surgeon/Physician Fees, Emergency Room Services, Emergency Medical Transportation, Urgent Care, Mental Behavior Health, Substance Use Disorders, Prenatal and Postnatal Pregnancy Care, Home Health Care, Rehabilitative Services, Skilled Nursing Care, Eye Exams, Glasses, Dental Checkups, Chiropractic Care.

Eligibility for benefits: Must be at least age 2 and under age 65 (HCC, 2015); Must not be pregnant, an expectant father, or planning on adopting; Must not be covered under other hospital, major medical, group health or other medical insurance coverage; Must not be a member of the armed forces of any country, state or international organization, other than on reserve duty for 30 days or less; and Must submit an Application, and if required, provide satisfactory evidence of insurability to the Company.
You must submit an application that is approved; you must not have any other health insurance.

Deductibles: 2500 per Covered Person per Coverage Period. Maximum of 3 Deductibles per family per Coverage Period. All services first require the insured to pay the $2,500 deductible. In network: $1,750 person/$3,500 family. Does not apply to PCP, First 5 Specialist visits, Urgent Care, First 3 visits ER visits, ER Transportation/Ambulance, Prenatal office visits, Advanced Imaging in freestanding facility, Preventive Care and Pediatric Vision Screening. Out of network: Not Covered

Copayments: During a Coverage Period, the Company will pay 80% of the next $5,000 of Eligible Expenses after the Deductible, then 100% of Eligible Expenses to the Overall Maximum Limit. 80%, 20% is the split. However, there are specific copayments of certain services, including $10 co-payments for a primary care physician, $50 for specialists and other practitioners, $10 for generic drugs, $35 for preferred brand drugs, $75 for non-preferred brand….....
