Beyond Babel: Why the Babble will Matter less by: Michael Schrage

There are four key elements involved in critical thinking these include: identifying the main argument of the author, supporting the areas of contention, evaluating the sustainability of these ideas and examining the argument. (Schrage)

Identifying the main argument: In the article that was written by Schrage, it discusses how: language is often viewed as tool that is vital for success in today's business world. However, beneath the surface, managers are more concerned about the ability to: produce high quality presentations and accurate numbers. (Schrage)

Identifying support for the argument: To highlight these views there are several basic points that Schrage makes. To include: the mixing of different languages / phrases into English (making it less useful), globalization is forcing specialized forms of communication and large corporations will begin to focus on having language free platforms to address these issues.

Evaluate support: Each of the different arguments makes sense, as they are providing ideas that are based on real world observations. In the case of mixing different languages / phrases into English, this can be seen in everyday society and how various words are incorporated into all forms of verbal communication. Globalization is making different kinds of communication more important than others (i.e. The shift from: talking on the phone to texting). Over the course of time, this will mean that many employers will begin using platforms that are not dependent upon one language. (Schrage)

Evaluate the Argument: Schrage makes good observations. However, he is overlooking the fact that all languages are becoming interconnected. This means that you will see English serve as the dominant language, augmented with technology (to address communication issues)......
