This not only fosters a sense of comradeship at every level of the organization, but again ensures that employees try to remain a strong, visible, and positive presence at work, since they are always being watched, albeit in a friendly fashion. The success of Google's control functions is manifest in the legions of individuals scrambling to work at the company.
Google also carefully screens its employees through its hiring process, to find individuals who are internally rather than externally driven in the rewards they seek from a job: Google wants employees who enjoy creative work and collaborating on intellectual challenges, rather than simply wish to earn another bonus through selfish competition (Hiring, 2010, Google)......
