The role of global and regional organizations is essential in this new era. We may expect the role of the United Nations to increase in the future, especially with the reform of the organization that everybody has been discussing. In the future, the United Nations is likely to become the equivalent of the World Trade Organization, an institution where conflicts will be solved, issues and solutions will be discussed and implemented globally. Of course, the UN is attempting to reach that level of coordination even today, but in order for this to work, the member countries need to be able to respect the ground rules imposed by an organism of cooperation.

The best example of countries giving up part of their sovereign rights (see realism), mostly as we may expect the UN to act in the future, is the European Union.
