III. The Abrahamic Covenant:

This too is an unconditional covenant characterized by:

God gave to Abraham a promise of a great national which is inclusive of all the lines of Ishmael and Abraham's two other sons Isaac and Benjamin. This is founding Genesis 8:21-9:17.

IV. The Davidic Covenant:

In this covenant God says "Thou has said, "I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant: "I will establish your descendants for ever and build your throne for all generations. [Selah] I have found David, my servant, with my holy oil I have anointed him; so that my hand shall ever abide with him, my arm also shall strengthen him." [Psalm 89 excerpts] This covenant is characterized by:

Royal authority in David's lineage

Disobedience reaping chastisement

The promise for the Messiah to come through David's line confirmed.

V. How the Covenants are the Same/Different and the Interwoven Promise:

Each of the successive covenants given of God to mankind raises the status of mankind higher than the covenant previously given of God to man. The theme that stretches throughout all of these covenants is one in which God's original promise of a Messiah is confirmed over and over again and is the single thread that makes all these covenants one in the same as they are all a covenant for a redeemer to come and to strike evil, or the serpent upon the head and in which God's children through the lineage of David will live in a God-ruled kingdom of perpetuity.


Conclusion:

These covenants are in reality interwoven because within each of these separately is a part of the entirety of the covenant between God and man as it has progressed and grown as man's knowledge and wisdom in God and the very nature of God has grown......
