SOCIOLOGY Sociology: Covid 19 Pandemic Hit PhiladelphiaEducation and business sectors are the two most important areas of an economy that need constant flourishing to provide the communities and their citizens with the necessities of life and growing opportunities to increase their quality of life (QoL). Growth in education and the contribution of increased investment in this sector gives rise to the economic growth of any region, reducing poverty rates and consequently flourishing businesses of the area. This paper highlights the problems stemming from Covid 19 hit in Philadelphia that was already suffering from poverty and the relevant problems. Education and city business structures would be the two selected areas of concern discussed in the following sections.Education Challenges in Philadelphia after Covid 19Pandemic has highlighted some major concerns of education in Philadelphia that were hushed for the past many years. The infrastructure and money for the investment in this area have been removed from federal infrastructure granted by the government, adding to additional problems arising from pandemics (Brockmeier, 2021). The reason for this has been the unspent funds that were initially allocated for this purpose. Still, with low political support, the matter has not been looked after as it should have been after the pandemic when students were restricted to their homes.Also, vaccination and mask mandates have been challenging since certain states and schools do not require children to wear masks, citing them as optional. The districts’ view of each district is different since their health conditions vary, and so do the policies (Kent, 2021). The parents are terrified of the new emerging variants like Delta and the vaccination protection against it. The parents do not want to send their children to schools that adversely affect their learning pace. Although the school staff is vaccinated, the masks are still voluntary for the students, creating substantial fear among the parents.
Since most of the Philly students in the public schools belong to low-income families, as 81% of them are poor, their health, admission to college and universities, and job opportunities are at stake (Ellison, 2019). Philadelphia has been suffering…
