Database Modeling and Normalization

Entity Relationship Model (ERM) Diagram is a data model used to describe the database in an abstract method. The relational database stores data in table. The entity in the database could point to several entries. For example, employee is an entity in the relationship database, and a diagram used to create the entity in the database is called entity-relationship diagrams or ER diagrams. (Silberschatz, Korth, 2006).

Objective of this report is to develop an entity relationship diagram for a consulting firm that offers information technology and database services. The firm attempts to create a relationships database to optimize and offer streamline solution efficiently in order to satisfy the government's requirements. The firm will create an ERM database to optimized data repository that will allow the firm to perform human resources (HR) functions effectively, which include as policy enforcement, benefits management, hiring, promotions, and training.

The paper provides the steps to employ to develop an effective Entity Relationship Model (ERM) Diagram for the firm.

1.1: Steps to Develop of an effective (ERM) Diagram

Steps in the development of ERM diagram for the HR core functions and responsibilities of the clients are as follows:

Entities: Identification of entities that will be should be used to develop HR core functions and responsibilities of the client.

Relationships: The next step is to develop relationships among the entities. For example, there is a relationship between HR employee and training, benefit management, policy enforcement, promotion, and training because HR employees will offer these services to employee of different departments within the organization Database.

Attributes: The next step is the identification of attributes. A data attribute is a characteristic that is common to all instances of a particular entity. The attribute in the database for the firm's ERD are as follows:

The next step is to draw the Entity Relationships Diagram that reveals all the entities, attributes and their relationships. The final step is to test the database.

The possible iterative steps to consider in the consideration of HR core functions and responsibilities of the clients is to develop employment policy which involves determining qualification, assigning positions, job descriptions, salary, wages, benefits and legal compliance.

The HR core functions to be considered in the database development for the firm include:

Screening,

Application handling,

Performance management and payroll,

Promotion and Raises

Employee service process.
