Does this lesson mean nothing in modern day politics? To once again hearken back to the great Greek philosopher, rather than ignoring lessons of the past, we must "Employ [our] time by improving [ourselves] in other men's writings, so that [we] shall easily gain what others have labored hard for."

However, this generation is more concerned with material possessions and image to really remember what was done and said in the past that now shapes our daily lives. We are loosing ourselves in the hollow shadow of possessions, rather than enlightening ourselves with the knowledge of our ancestors.
People go to college nowadays just to get jobs, not to truly enlighten themselves. Many of our generation are given the chance to improve themselves and to become great individuals through learning and understanding, but this chance is instead made hollow with vanity and greed. The great Twentieth Century African-American author W.E.B. Du Bois once said, "The worker must work for the glory of his handiwork, not for the pay; the thinker must think for the truth, not for the fame." This is what our generation is missing, humility and honor for ourselves......
