All these scenarios are finally reinforced with the debate of multiculturalism in present day America creating a very believable and understandable racist America.

American History has always been an idealist view of events. Students have read about the power of democracy and equality. However, events like slavery and the eradication of the Native American race are proof of the fact that equality and democracy do not always go hand in hand. As the founders took into play the concept of Manifest Destiny where Americas role in the world was seen as a conquering force the values of democracy were at times undermined.

However, because the dominant race always writes history the interpretation was not as clear. The present book by Spring highlights and traces American history in a manner that is multi-dimensional in view. Adapting a narrative style, Spring relates systematically the domination of the Anglo Saxon race. He does not necessarily present a picture of extreme domination but simply shows how values perceived as right for one race can categorically eradicate and abuse the rights of another race. The Anglo American race was seen as the dominant one and at the time in the early twentieth century segregation was seen as right.

African-Americans suffered due to this segregation but the law was acceptable for the dominant race and allowed progress in ways unforeseen. However, with progress comes knowledge and the majority realized that living in one community and suppressing one race would effect the whole society adversely and thus, this caused them to reevaluate the laws. However, the segmentation of the minority for so long caused them to become in a way disabled for while deculturalization took place so did the laws effect their progress for the people no longer saw their own cultures as viable and lost the ability to succeed on terms of the dominant race.

This perception and presentation of a multicultural view of history hence allows the reader to go into the nuances of historical interpretations and understand that not all laws are acceptable even if they are enforced by the majority. Mainly focusing on the effect of educational laws on the minority the book is a refreshing view of the U.S. laws and the manner in which minorities view it, allowing a debate to be created within the concept of multicultural education......
