This ahs some relevance to the PICO question in the ability of individuals to provide proper self-care, but it does not address the issues of diet or exercise at all.

The Two Best

The two most relevant articles that were uncovered during this research process in regards to the specific PICO question identified above were Gulve's 2008 article concerning the effects of different exercise types on glucose levels, and the Mayo Clinic's 2009 general information article on developing a healthy eating plan. These two articles have very different approaches both in collecting their information and in presenting it to the reader, but both also came the clsoest to directly answering the PICO question, or at least specific portions of the PICO question, and had highly reliable information.

In the case of the Mayo Clinic's article, the dietary plan was directly and explicitly linked to changes in glucose levels, aiding the patient (and the researcher) in knowing exactly why certain recommendations regarding intervention were being made. This leads to a deeper understanding and a deeper appreciation of the importance of diet on glucose levels and general control of type II diabetes.
The same is true fo Gulve's article when it comes to exercise; rather than simply asserting that exercise is an important factor in maintaining health for patients with type II diabetes, the author linked specific exercise practices and other factors to glucose-level changes, providing the same deeper understanding and appreciation when it comes to exercise and diabetes control. Both of these articles directly address separate areas of the PICO question, and the combined information of the two articles allows for a comprehensive answer to the question as a whole.

Conclusion

A large portion of the search results did not directly answer any part of the PICO question. This does not mean that these articles and the information represented therein are not useful when developing an answer to the PICO question, however. There is still a great deal of tangential relevance to many of the articles, and this information can be used to supplement and substantiate more directly relevant findings from the other articles. In short, the very process of conducting research into this area necessarily leads to a deeper and broader understanding of the….....
