Injustice and Inequality of Race in the United States

Most people in the world depend on the use of their bodies to acquire money. Professionals such as factory workers, lawyers and doctors among others use various parts of their bodies and then receive a wage in return. Notably, some people acquire good wages while others do not. Similarly, some individuals have a small degree of control of their jobs while others have a high degree of control over their jobs. It is worth identifying that this variation extends to the number of job variations that a person can access. For instance, some people have more employment options, unlike others. Besides, some people are socially stigmatized while others are not. Although well-reasoned arguments might justify the stigmatization of some occupations, some significant cases of these are based prejudice and stereotypes of race and gender (Nussbaum, 1998). The following study discusses the injustices and inequality of race in the United States using the ideas from 'Whether from Reason or Prejudice: Taking Money for Bodily Services' by Martha C. Nussbaum.

Essentially, some of the professionals especially the pop singers have to be compensated for the likelihood of prejudice based on race. Such prejudice has also been experienced through the increased police killing throughout the U.S. It is correct to assert that the current struggle of inequality and injustice caused through racism is a repeat of the country's history of genocide. The latter was directed towards indigenous people and enslaved African people. The activities have also been accompanied by the oppression of the immigrant workers. The notion of police killings in the U.S. has adopted a prejudiced pathway in the recent past. The new uprising of struggle against racially-based police killings proves the increased cases of inequality and injustices among people in the U.S. (Nussbaum, 1998).

As seen from the article, most opera singers are highly stigmatized. Nussbaum mentions that various cultural beliefs have enhanced the notion. In essence, race and class have been integrated into designing the economic, political and social relations (Nussbaum, 1998). Evidently, the inequalities and injustices are exacerbated as the economy develops. It is necessary to affirm that there have been significant changes like work allocated to different people. Presently, it is clear that political polarization is intensifying at an alarming rate across the United States and even around the globe. Racial discrimination has highly contaminated the system. The latter has majorly affected the African-Americans. The inequality and injustice that lessens the humanity of the blacks is proven by the historical white supremacy that oppressed the community.

Various instances show that the U.S.A. is unequal because some citizens are not treated equally. Currently, the primary trends spreading in the U.S. economy is wealth inequality as well as mass incarceration. In essence, the current system of justice allows the hyper-wealthy people to go unpunished after a massively destructive fraud. The inequality is vividly expressed by the fact that poverty has been turned into a crime. Some facts show the actual picture of the current wealth disparity between people in the nation (Nussbaum, 1998). For instance, the African-Americans and Mexicans are among the poorest communities in the U.S.A. The political system has been engulfed by racial discrimination that indirectly oppresses the black community. Before the implementation of the laws against racism, there were many cases of racial discrimination by employers. In this case, most white employers did not offer employment opportunities to black people. Besides, they stereotyped that black people were only associate with violence and destruction. When income disparity among U.S. citizens is compared according to race, the median of the Black household was $35,416 in 2014. The figure is 60% less the figure that the Whites. Besides, that unemployment among the black people stood at 11.4% doubling that of the white people standing at 5.3%. The killing of a black teenager by a white police officer was another alarm that expressed injustice (Nussbaum, 1998).

Since 1998, the department of defense has provided $5.1 billion in equipment to both the state and local police. It is pertinent to assert that the state is directed towards protecting the U.S. and its economy for the interests of various corporate billionaires (Nussbaum, 1998). These are unequal with the normal black U.S. citizens without the power to buy control local and national governments and international financial institutions. The racially-based case of Ferguson does not appear as an isolated case. However, it represents the racial inequality and injustice through state violence. For this reason, the incident means that there is the need of a reorganization of power.

The economy requires political education that is connected to the political struggle. It is pertinent to mention that some Mexican immigrants experience eminent racial discrimination.

Various cases have been experienced in the U.S. where Mexican-Americans discriminate their fellow Mexican migrants. Many of them easily forget that they emanate from the same origin. Notably, money and race are the primary factors generating social disparity in the U.S. The worsening of the economy and increased job losses have resulted in more racial discrimination among the minority racial groups. It is pertinent to mention that the African-Americans have constantly suffered the notion of racial discrimination. However, the hammer has also strike the Latinos, Hispanics and Mexican-Americans. Arguably, there are many causes of discrimination ranging from cultural difference as well as economic transformation. Most of the deaths that occur to the unarmed men show how executions take place in the country against non-white citizens.

Prejudice against the latter has caused discrimination against the Mexicans and black people because of their stereotypic association with crime and violence. Most of the non-white people are also discriminated through social media. It is pertinent to affirm that the notion devalues men women, as well as the children of color. Furthermore, it enhanced biased perceptions of the minority groups in the U.S. The author identifies how America should implement new laws and challenge the racial biases (Nussbaum, 1998). Notably, some American laws reinforce racist notions. Angela Onwuachi, an American Law professor, shares the impact of one of some of the U.S. laws that enhance racism.

The Crossing article discusses various non-white people that reside at the border of USA and Mexico. Americans and Native Americans, as well as Mexicans and non-Mexicans, live or pass through this place. The article discusses the difficult time that the migrants experience as they shift from Mexico to the U.S. The article chronicles the fear that these migrants have towards the Americans. The author mentions that it is possible that they saw him coming and decided to hide in one of the saddle's humps. For this reason, he had to convince them that he emanated from the Samaritan control (Martinez, 2006). Primarily, the latter is just as activists aimed to end deaths towards the migrant non-white people. Through the article, one can identify that the Mexican migrants are highly associated with crime especially drugs and weapon trafficking. Because of this stereotypic notion, the area has been filled with a Mexican and America-issue sidearm and the assault rifles belonging to the paramilitary on both sectors. The notion is the primary reason to why there is bloodshed. Assault, murder, rape and torture among the migrants are common experiences.

It is essential to mention that there is a succinct historical background to these assertions. In the era of the California Gold Rush, a great number of Mexicans arrived in the state. Most of these were experienced miners and possessed eminent success in gold mining. However, various Americans perceived the collective success as a loss of the U.S. wealth. For this reason, they intimidated the Mexican miners with violence. Presently, about 11% of the U.S. population identify themselves as of partial or full Mexican Ancestry. As of 2008, over 7,000,000 undocumented Mexicans lived in the U.S. (Martinez, 2006). It is worth mentioning that various private citizens groups have been developed with an aim of apprehending the immigrants that cross in the U.S. illegally. However, it has been associated with discrimination because of the aggressive and various illegal tactics. Clearly, the Mexicans make up the majority of the Latinos in the U.S. Whenever the non-Latino population is asked to comment on their perception about the Latinos, they tend to think of Mexicans. The notion has been facilitated by the media that highly concentrates on illegal immigration (Martinez, 2006).

The report by the National Hispanic Media Coalition shows that one-third of the non-Hispanic-Americans (whites, blacks, and Asians) believe that more than half of the Hispanics are illegal immigrants. It also notes that most of these have large families with little education. Significantly, the report has been criticized on the basis that it upholds a similar mistake as the media. It also aggregates all Latinos into the same group hence losing the diversity and different perceptions that both groups possess (Martinez, 2006). The injustice and inequality have highly affected the relationship between the Mexican-Americans and the African-American community.
