Doctor

My dream to become a doctor began when I was a young girl. Always eager to rescue people and take care of them, I felt like I had the ability to heal. I also played pretend games with all my friends, and like many children we often played doctor. The original instinct was to nurture and soothe, but also to act as the leader. I seem to have a natural inclination for leadership and tend to remain calm in most situations. This comes naturally to me, for I tend to be independent, confident, and self-reliant. My desire to help others as a doctor also comes from this fundamental aspect of my personality. It has always satisfied me when I can help others be well, whether psychologically or physically.

As I grew up and my intellect matured, I realized my predilection for the natural sciences. Always excelling in biology and other classes in school, my inclination to become a doctor was magnified. I began to realize that I had the capacity to not only be a nurturing caregiver and natural leader, but also to be grounded in scientific knowledge.

In fact, the details of medicine draw me to the profession. I love learning about anatomy, physiology, genetics, and the potential future of the medical sciences. I can envision myself practicing any type of medicine, but for the past several years I have given due consideration to becoming a gynecologist. The human body will never cease to amaze me, even after I become a doctor.
