Dollar Store

Dollar General goes through a process of choosing a suitable location before deciding on where to open a store. The location has to have certain criteria or requirements in terms of demographics and the assistance of software to be used for this purpose. An example of the standards that a Dollar General store requires in terms of its location necessitates the requirement that there be at least eight thousand people who are having family incomes of thirty thousand or less and who reside within a distance of one mile radius in urban areas and in the case of rural areas they have to be within a distance of ten mile radius. Dollar General then decides on a suitable site in this area and might develop the area by self or would decide to lease suitable buildings within a prescribed price range. Once the necessary location and site have been decided then the district or area manager needs to arrange the builders to complete the site which may be construction of the site or renovation of an existing building and the builders need to keep in mind all the requirements of Dollar General which include facilities for the Dollar General fifty three foot tractor-trailers to maneuver through the curbs and parking lots.

As the construction work is coming to an end the property managers at the headquarters of Dollar General are alerted to this fact and they inform a corporate buyer who places immediately an order with IBM for two or five point of sales terminals with delivery to be affected on the second day of an eight day cycle for a store opening.
The order for the cash registers causes an electronic alert to Spacenet, who are responsible for the creation of the necessary satellite connection between the cash registers and the headquarters of Dollar General. The installation manager is sent an e-mail with the phone number of the store that is to be opened and the installation aware of the date when the registers are due schedules an installer to be present at the store on the days four and five of the eight day cycle for store opening with all the necessary equipment to ensure that the necessary connections are made. On day one of the eight day store opening cycle the physical set up of the store is initiated under the direction of a setter who arrives on the scene with a team of twenty un-packers, stockers, sweepers and fix-it people.
