What is your most common conflict management style at work and in your personal life? Is it the same? Why or Why not? Do you use all the styles? Would you like to use one more often than you do?

The most common conflict management style varies by the situation and the people involved. In my personal life I am very confident and are very assertive, often with little cooperativeness at times. As I am responsible for making a part of my family function I have to focus on getting things done, being assertive and not necessarily bending with exceptional cooperativeness. In my professional life I try to be not as assertive and also cooperate more, partially out of wanting to learn by doing and also due to the fact I respect those I work for. This shifts my conflict management style to more of a compromising role. As my personal and work roles are quite different, I use different conflict management styles to manage them. I could improve frankly in both areas.

I would like to be more of a problem-solver and be more focused on cooperativeness and assertiveness balanced, as is shown in the PowerPoint slide deck. I would also like to concentrate more on being compromising more with my family, despite being anxious about getting work done around the house and getting to appointments on time. I need to be more compromising at home and not so focused on assertiveness to the point of aggressiveness. At work, I need to strive to be more problem solving orientated and less focused on either avoiding or just compromising. I would also like to be able to get to a more consistent approach to managing conflict across both work and personal life so I would not have to change between styles so much. I however do not like to compromise too much as I have strong opinions about getting work done......
