It is therefore also my duty to provide families and older people with counseling and educational services that take all these factors into account. With an increasing number of people aging in society today, it is vital for professionals in the field to help family make decisions at crucial points in their lives. This would provide both families and older people with the power of decision-making that would ultimately result in the best quality of care that older persons may expect when entered into institutions.

Specifically, my educational role could take several forms, but would also mean focusing on the greatest benefit to all parties involved. This would mean providing information to the public regarding the decision to make use of caregiving services, either at home or in an institution. This can be done by means of seminars, office or home visits, or by means of simply making pamphlets available at doctor's offices and the like. I will emphasize the need for persons facing old age to make their own care decisions, as far as possible, when they are still cognitively able to do so. I will also emphasize the need for communication among family members to optimize the type of care and institutions that would suit the personality and person of the family member in question.

Another component of optimizing care for older people is to ensure that regular inspections are carried out at care institutions. These inspections should be focused on the quality of care provided to older people at such institutions, especially where these residents are vulnerable and cannot communicate their needs in an effective way. Dignity should be at the heart of providing care to these persons.

A final component of my role to ensure that care is optimized would be to conduct research in the newest assisted living technologies and the way in which these are used both in homes and institutions. This technology should be used in a way that creates a better environment for old and infirm people, so that they can experience an optimal sense of well-being as they live out the final years of their lives.

Finally, my role as professional in the field of aging would be to ensure that families and older people are aware of their rights when it comes to assisted living and care facilities. I will work to help such people make decisions that best suit their specific situations. I will also help them to make these decisions as effectively as possible and will then work to honor whatever decisions they have made.

In conclusion, old age is a reality we face as individuals, as families, and as a society. Professionals in the field are ethically obliged to make the journey into old age as smooth and pleasant as possible. This can be accomplished by means of adhering to the no harm principle, serving an educational and counseling role, and by ensuring that decisions are sound.
