ethical statement is the set of principles that an organization expects its members to follow. These principles are designed to create a more ethical and morally sound environment where concepts like professionalism, commitment and devotion are deeply valued. Ethical statement is in other words a code of conduct that gives organizational members a clear idea of what they are expected to do, what the common organizational goals are and why members should strive to achieve the same.

Ethical statement then serves as a guide to proper behavior and attitude, which helps in extending better service to the customers and also helps the organization not lose sight of it main objectives. In my organization, The American college, there exists a written ethical statement, which states some of the basic principles that the organizational expects its members to follow. The most important is providing good service to our students and meeting all their educational needs. The other principles focus on creation of a more ethical environment that fosters professional and personal development. This ethical statement is binding on the members and assists them in recognizing potential ethical problems and threats that arise in educational organizations.
When an organization patterns itself after an ethical model, it benefits everyone associated with it including the teachers and students.

Lack of an ethical statement or absence of a clearly written code of conduct can lead to emergence of various ethical problems. When these problems arise, the students and teachers are usually unfamiliar with the situation as the result of which they remain confused and it leads to even greater problems. Secondly, when an organization doesn't have an ethical statement, it can come under an attack in case of ethical problems. Thirdly without an ethical code, the members cannot be blamed for wrong behavior or actions since they are in dark about the ethical stand of the organization.

It is important to remember that no ethical statement can contain guidelines for correct behavior for all possible ethical problems or unethical situations. For this reason, it is important to focus on the most common problems and be very specific and clear about organizational stand on situations of ethical significance.
