This means that though there is great joy and love derived form caring for a child, there is also a great deal of sacrifice that must be made. There will be less time to spend with friends and even with the mother of the child, as the child's needs will occupy the bulk of both parent's time. This can be especially daunting for fathers, however, who even in these more equitable times are often less at home with domestic chores, and more used to being able to determine their own schedules around their own preferences. With fatherhood, other relationships might suffer at first, and others might disappear altogether.

The most difficult part of fatherhood, however, is not getting used to the new responsibilities of a baby or the changing relationships with other people in the father's life, but rather with the raising of the child into a decent, happy, and productive human being. Raising a baby in infancy is easy comparing with guiding a growing child through moral dilemmas, hurtful experiences, and learning life's lessons.
In this regard, it is probably impossible to be the perfect father, and so the expectant father must prepare himself for an intense, life-long adventure in learning, too. He must learn what to tech his child, and perhaps more importantly how to teach his child. Basically, a father must expect to be confronted with the constant need to adapt as his child shows him how they learn. Getting used to children is as individual and varied as each child, and it usually takes as long as they do to grow up.

It is impossible to really describe what to expect as a new father. What is certain, however, is that the journey will be long, hard, and very rewarding. Being responsible for creating and shaping a new life is an awesome and powerful task. The only thing that can really prepare anyone for it is an open mind and heart......
