Analysis How clear is the argument? Does it flow logically? Are there gaps, inconsistencies, or contradictions in the discussion or argument?

The author's argument that the Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit, of course, cannot be proved or disproved. However, their use of exegetical techniques, and information about the historical context of when the Bible was written is valuable, and persuasively made. Merely because the Bible was affected by history does not mean that it cannot teach lessons for all time, provided one understands how historical context may give certain words or teachings a meaning present for today, that did not exist in the past.

Conclusion: Of what value is book? What does it add to the discourse?

Every chapter is helpful because of its focus on specific passages and genres for advancing the author's argument. The author's willingness to focus on differences in the Bible in terms of genre and history when the works were produced rather than simply iron out contradictions by justifying it with theology is refreshing.
The book is unlikely to convert tried -- and -true fundamentalists or hard-line academics, but provides an intelligent lay believer with a way of understanding his or her faith in a meaningful context of history.

Who would find the piece helpful and why?

This book is a good introduction for ordinary believers who wish to learn a bit about the original context of the Bible. It would also be helpful for persons just beginning to study the Bible as a scholarly document, or a historical production of the ancient near East. The transition from reading the Bible as a moral guide or as a story can be difficult to bridge, intellectually and emotionally for some believers, but this book is a helpful….....
