Hurricane Recovery PSA

While governments and authorities try to advise effectively, and take all possible measures to prevent and avoid human casualties and loss of property, they also lay emphasis on the process of recovery after a natural disaster. The recovery process is important to prevent human loss and disease and to again set up their lives.

In this aspect, the National Disaster Recovery Framework provides a flexible structure which helps in the formation of strategies and enables disaster recovery managers to know what they need to do exactly in a collaborative manner. The aim of such disaster recovery efforts is to the finding out of the ways and means that are best to restore, redevelop the health and the social, economic and natural fabric of the community affected by the disaster ("National Disaster Recovery Framework k," 2016).

The National Disaster Recovery Framework has also developed a format that includes community planning and capacity building recovery support function that is supported by FEMA, the economic recovery support function is supported by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the department of health and human services strategize the health and social services recovery support functions ("National Disaster Recovery Framework k," 2016).

In this paper, we prepare a PSA for recovery stage of the local residents who were affected by a hurricane in Jacksonville, Florida.


The proposed PSA for Food Safety after a hurricane:

Keeping Food Fresh

In order to keep food fresh in case of power cut, the refrigerator and freezer doors should be kept closed as much as possible

Spoiled food should be thrown out

Food that is in an open can should be thrown out

If there is a strange smell, color, or texture to the food it should be thrown out

All canned food needs to be cleaned out and the labels are removed, they need to be dipped in cans with a mix of 5 gallons of water and 1 cup of household bleach.

Water Safety after a Hurricane

Find out whether tap water is fit to be consumed.

In case they are not then water should be brought to a rolling boil for 1 minute

Household bleach can be used by using 1/8 teaspoon of new, unscented liquid bleach to a container of water of 1-gallon capacity and allow the water to sit for 30 minutes before drinking
