The strategic reality facing the Times was that it needed to charge for its content in order to maintain its standards, but consumers have become accustomed to not paying for this content. This pricing decision because of these facts was one of the most complex pricing decisions that has been made in the past year by just about any company. The Times used multiple tools to help it make its decision.


At this point, the plan is going to go into effect. The Times is about to gather a substantial amount of new information about its decision, which will provide it with the opportunity to make adjustments to its pricing plan that will, over time, allow it to find the optimal point of pricing and quantity restrictions that will deliver maximum profit in the long run.
