In trying to be different from the rest and in trying to act against reason people are either false or they prefer to believe that they actually have an alternative. Considering this, it is only safe to assume that freedom, as Kant sees it, is limited to performing acts that act in accordance with reason. Unlimited freedom would mean that one would act against reason and against his or her purpose as a typical human being that is expected to contribute to the well-being of society.
If what Kant thinks is actually true it means that people are unable to act in accordance with their personal convictions and that they are merely a part of a greater mechanism. Being a person would be nothing more than just a dream, considering that one could not actually exercise his or her free will and that basically everything that he or she would do would be a result of them taking on their roles as members of an automated world.
