Women like Nancy, are now forced to deal with leasing two cultures in one lifetime; yet many are finding that the two are not as radically different as one might believe. All though Nancy is offered more opportunity for education and employment within the context of Los Angeles California, she still must face the grim reality of making less money than her male counterparts on top of the ancient burden her culture inherently places on her shoulders. Many women within Chinatown understand these similarities between their Eastern and Western sentiments, yet don't understand why the United States has chosen such a covert route of gender discrimination due to the open practice of their Chinese heritage.
