Halle Berry made American and World history by becoming the first African-American woman to be awarded with the prestigious and renowned Oscar award for best actress for her performance in Monster's Ball. A speechless Halle Berry accepted her award in tears at the 74th Annual Academy Awards. An emotional Berry commented, "This moment is so much bigger than me...this is for every nameless, faceless woman of color who now has a chance because this door has been opened." As the camera swept across the celebrity crowd, it was visible that many onlookers shared in Halle's emotion. The humble Mrs. Berry went on to thank the women who come before her including Dorothy Dandridge who she portrayed in a HBO movie Introducing Dorothy Dandridge as well as Lena Horne and Diahann Carol.
