By now, for example, we should all realize that man created "gods" rather than the other way around, and that, ultimately, our lives are meaningless simply because we already know that all life on earth will eventually come to an end. That knowledge and realization should, if anything, help us eliminate arbitrary prejudices and atavistic xenophobia that are substantially related to religious and cultural differences in their origin.

Our knowledge should help us reduce our obsession with superficial goals and (especially) acquisitive success and help us realize that the only possible "meaning" to our lives is measured by the degree to which we have helped others who are less fortunate than we are to overcome grave hardships.

Instead, many of us become more focused on interests and goals that are superficial and meaningless in the long run and we spend our lives pursuing those types of goals and we never bother applying our great knowledge to working toward more meaningful goals. In principle, our greater knowledge of ourselves should help us develop a more concerned and less egocentric psychological perspective.
