Nurses to Diabetics

Examine the previous and today's positive effects nurses including advanced professional/advanced practice nurses have made in addressing diabetes.

As the world keeps developing with associated growing population and industrialization, the number of people living with the medical condition of diabetes is on the rise. Despite the widely held belief among diabetics that their personal doctors alone are tasked with the role of giving them relevant education and care, other health personnel have seen their importance in this issue enjoy a steady rise over the past few decades. It has been recommended that nurses should be in the forefront in the treatment or management of the disease due to their ability to provide less costly yet still excellent health care.

One of the major processes in self-management lessons for diabetics is educating its patients across all age brackets. Various researcheshave revealed that nurses deliver a higher quality of care than most doctors and they also cost less to use. In today's health environment, nurses have a worldwide importance when diabetics are concerned. Nurses used to be restricted to normal hospital and clinical tasks; however, they now take charge or work alongside doctors in most areas of health care delivery. Thus, nurses are no longer restricted to the health facility activities, but they now go the extra mile in educating patients about prevention and helping in the treatment of infections and ailments in all spheres of health care delivery (Peimani et al. 2010).

Crucially, nurses are involved in improving the lifestyle of diabetics as well as helping them control vital body fluids via proper training regimes. They try to show diabetics the best way to live quality lives despite the daily problems the disease poses.
They achieve this by supplying them and their loved ones with important information and advice needed to keep them in top shape despite the disease. Although quite a number of diabetics still hold on to the conventional belief that their doctors should be the ones giving them health care tips, the relative importance of other health personnel has been established via recent research. Due to these revelations, nurses have taken a front seat in the provision of quality care to diabetics over the last two decades (Peimani et al. 2010).

Due to their increased importance to diabetics, nurses should strive to sway health policies in their favor so as to be better equipped to deliver high quality care in health facilities, schools and the society at large, and to get closer to the diabetics in the nation. Studies have confirmed that more improvement is recorded in diabetics when nurses work together with diabeologists, an indicator of the effectiveness of health personnel from various disciplines working together. In order to achieve this level of treatment efficiency, proper training regimes should be created for nurses where they should be taught how to detect, prevent and treat various blood sugar situations and also how to educate the….....
