While many insurance companies may have limits in place, those limits are easily raised when requested by doctors (Maschue 2012). Under the current Medicare and Medicaid plans, however, the government sets specific amounts that doctors and hospitals may bill and any amount over that will not be paid. This limit leads to many doctors refusing to accept government patients or reducing the amount of care for those patients (Maschue 2012). So, reimbursement of physicians is directly related to the quality of care for patients.

Starting in 2012, President Obama's national healthcare plan takes effect. While in 2012 the only effect is increased taxes, the true burden for the medical industry begins in 2014. In 2014 individuals will be required to own insurance through either a private provider or a government funded program.

While private providers will continue the same level of care, the government program has already set specific limits on medical care including a controversial individual healthcare mandate (Jackson 2010). Should the past be any indication of the future, this legislation will be very harmful to the overall quality of the healthcare system.

Private healthcare as has been known in the United States for the past 100 years is going to change under current legislation. If other socialized countries and current bureaucratic problems are any indicator, the future of healthcare in America does not look bright. In fact, the overall quality of care given the patients and the healthy increase of jobs within the industry will likely decrease in the future.
