Fayol's theory of management is relevant to today's manager by expressing the need for long-range planning (Rue, 1973, p.23). The increased rate of change in today's world almost indicates that we plan well into the future (Rue, 1973). The five elements of management- planning, organizing, command, coordination, and control are still necessary components today (Carter, 2001, p.455).
