The Boston Bombing in relation to homeland security

Following the various hearings after the 9/11 bombings, one factor that came out clear to all Americans, from the technical people to the lay people is that one single most aspect that resulted in the success of the terrorist attack was lack of a seamless communication among the various security agencies and departments and not the lack of information. This was a scene that was replayed in the recent Boston Marathon bombing where three people lost their lives as 260 others maimed to amputation levels (Larry B., 2013).

Tamerlan Tsarnaev who was 26 and his brother Dzhokhar who was 19 years old have been held responsible so far in the bombings at Boston. They coordinated to have explosive devices planted among the crowds that were at the finish line and successfully did so. Hours later Tamerlan was shot dead by police when he engaged them in a shootout instead of surrendering while Dzhokhar was arrested and still under custody of the authorities undergoing investigations.

The details that follow these events are however the key focus here as they reflect back on what had previously happened within the U.S.A. history. Edward Davis who is the Boston Police Commissioner, while giving his testimony before the House Homeland Security Committee, indicated that the local police never had any information about the two brothers and had not been duly informed by the FBI that they had any information and several warnings about the activities of the two brothers by the Russian Government. This was an assertion that was restated by a top Massachusetts Homeland Security official. The police department in Boston apparently was not informed of the FBI having questioned the elder brother Tsarnaev and his family, neither did they know the this elder brother had spent six months in unclear circumstances in southern Russia, a….....
