Most people think of the word myth as being meant to relate to an idea that is generally accepted but is not supported by solid evidence. The contemporary society also relates to tales of gods or ancient heroes that once had a religious basis as being myth. Many cultures have gathered numerous stories involving myths and they can be related to as being mythologies. It is only safe to relate to myths as being an abstract reality, relatively similar to religion (taking into account that even with the fact that many individuals are actively involved in promoting religious ideas there is no solid proof to back these ideas).

The Western community typically thought about myths as being associated with pagan thinking, taking into account that Christianity has had a strong influence of this part of the world. People are inclined to use the word myth with the purpose of attempting to describe actions that they are not able to explain otherwise. There are a great deal of theories concerning the idea of myth and many relate to how they stand as an example meant for the social order to take on particular attitudes.

People are practically meant to learn important information as a result of interpreting myths.

Ancient tribes have typically had the tendency to consider the idea of a "Father" or "Master." This concept involved a divine being or someone who simply held supernatural powers -- someone who was different from them and whom they needed to provide with special attention on account of the benefits that they could reap from the enterprise. However, "even some of the most backward savages make a perhaps half-conscious distinction between their mythology and their religion" (Lang 5).

From the beginning of time humanity has attempted to come up with possible answers to question that could not be answered. Individuals from around the world were thus provided with the same situation: they needed to devise theories that could explain things that they could not understand. Religions were in many cases the perfect solutions to problems and one is likely to observe that many religious ideologies from around the world are similar. While ancient myths emerged as a result of the fact that individuals were unable to explain particular weather phenomena, people also came to devise myths that resembled myths in other cultures because they were influenced by the respective cultures.
