As each device in the family has 5GB and is about to run out, we upgraded each iCloud memory configuration at the store, although it is also possible to do this online as well.

We purchased a 100GB upgrade for the MacBook Air, and also added a 50GB upgrade for the iPad2. The ease of doing this was impressive and we were able to also get the iCloud options configured to be consistent across all devices. The options for what to store and how to archive it was impressive. Apple has made usability and streamline configuration of the iCloud a high priority and it shows.

Lessons Learned

The value of the Genius Bar was evident in how quickly the problem was solved. The expert also explained each of the new features of the iOS operating system and showed how the iCloud tabs in Safari were replicated in real-time to the iCloud storage locations for each device. The expert also showed how to configure the Do Not Disturb feature so notifications would not come on in the middle of the night, and that only certain calls or texts would be delivered. This feature is one of the most requested by Apple customers today, as Android supports this feature of privacy today (Frakes, 54). We also learned about how the iOS operating system supports an offline reading list, and can be configured to support references to iBooks and the Bookshelf as well (Frakes, 54).

In addition to all of these features the expert at the Genius Bar was able to show us how to configure the new clock App for the iPad that is the most intuitively designed utility Apple has created.

Apple has streamlined cloud computing to such an extent that it is only two clicks to recover anting from their mass storage service. While this aspect of computing is called cloud computing, Apple has made the technology align with a positive customer experience, creating a highly effective platform for saving every item of content purchases, consumed or created on an Apple device.
