The factory system made sure that the factories produced the best that they could and an increased production meant an increased quantity of goods. But while certain social categories were having their living standard significantly improved, Disraeli reminds us about the price that the lower social class was paying. (Very confusing paragraph. You touch on a number of unrelated points but have not tied all of those points together.)

The second document under analysis is a fragment from Robert Owen's address to the workers of New Lanark. The temporal frame the document dates from is more or less the same one as Disraeli's book. This however is a speech addressed directly by him to the workers. The text is filled with philosophical connotations and its purpose is on the one hand, to educate, on the other hand, to motivate.

According to the author of the speech, the world is divided into the rich and the poor (it's a point that Disraeli underlines as well) but the preset order can be changed. Owen speaks about the possibility of creating a world in which both the workers and the state can enjoy high profits. This society is one in which the realization of the best interest of a social class does not imply the ruin of the others. It is a world in which the factories can make huge profits without having men, women and children working as slaves.

Unfortunately, while this vision can be exhilarating and act as a good motivational factor, it is quite impossible to achieve this ideal at an universal scale. While Owen himself achieved it, the international political and financial dynamics prevented this pattern from being successfully repeated in a manner which would have touched a bigger population. (No, it wasn't. Owen himself achieved it. I think you are missing Owen's point here.) Ignorance, poverty and vice are still maintained nowadays and although the political ideologies have tried in all the possible ways to impose their ideals for a better living, the two nations have always been maintained (despite the improvement of the living standard). A society composed out of an unique class seems to be impossible because the differences between people are maintained by a system led by the rich class- which can not afford to diminish its power or put its position at risk. (Why was this the case?)

Owen speaks as an idealist because he had achieved his ideal. He became rich and he maintained his noble spirit and generosity. His personal success inspired him and he believed in the power of all the individuals to shape their own destiny like that. While things have been different in the past, nowadays the human resources have become strategic and therefore it is safe to say that a successful contemporary capitalist ought to put more emphasis on people than on profit......
