Givenchy

Count Hubert James Marcel Taffin de Givenchy was born in France in 1927. At the age of 25, he founded his own fashion house, The House of Givenchy. After becoming interested in the world of fashion following an excursion to the 1937 World's Fair in Paris, he took up studying at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. In 1945 and 1946, he was allowed to design for the likes of Jacques Faith and Lucien Lelong. For four years, starting in 1947, Givenchy worked for avant-garde fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli (Givenchy). He would become famous in the 1950s for creating clean and simple silhouettes that would add to a woman's femininity. It is said that Givenchy was the man who invented separates for sale, which were usually only used for fittings (Givenchy).
