You ask me what's the most important event in the city's history. I can tell you.

The Watts Riots. I wasn't born, but it was always talked about.

I see that as a sign that everybody wanted a place in this city.

Black, white, yellow, red, brown, we all want a home to call our own.

And we want to be treated equal.

There's parts of town still in that old Watts Riots mentality

That things aren't good and they never will be.

I try to ignore all that.

I think the point of all the troubles we had back in the day was so that we could move forward.

My little boy is going to grow up thinking the most important event in the history of LA was the day Daddy opened his restaurant. It's different now, for some of us anyway.

But people are always wrong about LA.

Take the whole 'shallow' thing.

We have that.

But we have fifteen million people. And most of us are pretty real.

Down to earth.

Working hard, making a living, raising families, going to school.

I would tell people that LA is a really cool place with really cool people.

It's not like reality TV or anything stupid like that.

But the combination of wonderful things attracts people. I myself have been attracted to come here, and I think that I see in my own thoughts many of the things that people said in the interviews. I see that we all come to LA to pursue a dream, even those who are born here. We arrive with ideas about the city and soon those ideas are turned around. They are changed, just as we are.

What surprised me most about the responses is how similar they are, despite the people giving them being so different. People may love different things and hate different things, but they still have the same general sense about the city. The two people who are from here also differed somewhat from the three people who are from someplace else. The native people have had to adapt from the LA they grew up with to the LA that they have today, and find their own path. This is the same process I think that newcomers have. We must all take the things we love in LA and make a greater life with that goodness.

I saw so many things the same with what people said in the interviews and my own thoughts. I think we all share a common dream, and have chosen this as the place to follow that dream. So I see myself in the different people I talked to and in the different people all around me. We are the same, in our soul, and we can all relate to each other on that level no matter how different we….....
