ladies and gentlemen! There is a saying that goes, "Vice seen is better than vice unseen." I mentioned this to relate to a problem we have had with regards to our major league sports players -- the use of performance enhancing drugs "such as anabolic steroids, androstenedione, human growth hormone, erythropoietin, diuretics, creatine and stimulants (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2010)." The problem is not new and has been a challenge because of the gravity of the situation. There is no lack of cases and statistics that show how many major league players have been caught using these performance enhancing drugs, which by the way is banned and illegal. But my issue is how come these drugs are not allowed? Those who oppose the use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs say that the athletes who use them are breaking the rules and getting an unfair advantage over others (Katz, 2008). In addition to these, the use of these drugs poses major health risks and there are documented long-term and irreversible side-effects. Well, so does alcohol and tobacco but these "drugs and substances" are very legal and have proven to be "cash cows" for the government in terms of taxes being paid.

Thus, I believe that all the hype regarding the evils performance enhancing drug use should be leveled and the ban repealed.

I say this because I would rather know that these athletes are using them so that there would be better management and control of their usage. Since it is illegal, these athletes have been hiding the use of these drugs and often do not know that they are consuming way beyond their bodies' capacity. It is the same as using alcohol or tobacco, those using these do so openly and people around them are aware. They can be advised, counseled and provided help to ensure that the use thereof is managed properly or provided assistance should they want to quit. This is what I mean by "vice seen" as opposed to these athletes hiding their dangerous habit of using performance enhancing drugs and….....
