Leadership Reflection

Final Reflections

This experience has definitely changed me for the better. All the tools provided will ultimately help me strengthen my leadership skills, both in my present position and for all future leadership roles as well. Looking back at all that I have done over the course of this experience helps me really see how far I have come.

Having the position of Senior Enlisted Advisor of an Army Unit Stationed in South Korea was definitely a benefit that gave me major experience in working with team members in order to ensure the productivity of the larger group under my command. Using my experience from the field, I was better able to adapt and understand the major elements presented throughout this training. Looking through the prior modules, I know that I did show strong leadership skills in the beginning; yet, I feel that throughout the course of this training I have strengthened my leadership abilities even more. I feel that from a strong starting position, I was allowed to catapult even further into developing practical and efficient skills to use in any leadership role.

Throughout the reflection modules, I learned a lot about myself, including the capabilities in which I am the strongest within a leadership role. Some of these traits I knew I excelled in before this course, like the concept seen in the Task-Oriented Attitudes and Behaviors test. I was confident in my score because I consider myself to be extremely task-oriented. I know that it takes objective reasoning to really work through problems as they arise within the work environment.

As such, critical reflection and evidence-based thinking are crucial to meeting goals and deadlines effectively. The process of this course has helped me fine tune those skills by providing me with the set of tools necessary to improve my objective methodology when approaching real problems. That is the ultimate goal of leadership, to lead the team to victory and success. I feel confident that the tools explored within this course have strengthened my already established critical thinking capabilities so that I can translate what I have learned here successfully into real world scenarios.

Still, I found out that my confidence in my leadership skills was average. This is not bad by any means, but I really started to understand throughout the course that I wanted to improve my own confidence in my leadership so that those under my command could trust it even more as well. From the Reflection 2-1, I knew I had to focus on building my confidence and allow myself to trust in my leadership role. This was one element that I did work on throughout this experience. Additionally, I was surprised to see that I scored lower than expected on the resiliency test. With all my experience in the field, I really thought that I would have showed a greater sense of resiliency. Yet, this is the point of these exercises, as they give you a strong direction….....
